ESTAÇÃO ECOLÓGICA DE ANAVILHANAS
General info: The Anavilhanas Ecological Station is a fully protected conservation unit that comprises the world's largest fluvial archipaelago. Up to 400 islands are found in the area, interweined by lakes and channels. The station is located in the lower Negro River, a few kilometers upstream from the city of Manaus. In August, the water level is close to its annual maximum and most of the islands are flooded by the black waters of the Negro, forming a unique environment of flooded forests known as igapó.It's the perfect place to take a canoe ride and spot all kinds of waterrelated wildlife, such as alligators, semi-aquatic lizards, dolphins and many species of waterbirds.
